Moving from the Classic to the Modern SharePoint Experience
As technology advances at an incredible rate Microsoft continues to develop the tools it offers for the Modern Digital Workplace. The introduction of the Modern SharePoint Experience is, for many, somewhat overdue. The update is geared towards the modern employee and with the launch of the SharePoint Mobile App, Microsoft shows it understands that the future is mobile.
What does the Modern Experience in SharePoint Look Like?
The Modern SharePoint Experience is defined by a set of new user experiences that will improve communication and collaboration and help free up time that you can use to focus more on the strategic side of the business. Instead of having to maintain and patch a SharePoint Server, emphasis can be put on improving and launching new initiatives. Instead of being dependent on your technical team when setting up and running sites, the modern journey enables the self-service culture. The goal is that any user can create a useful, attractive, responsive site without requiring services from IT or a developer.
Why make the move to the new & improved SharePoint?
This new and improved SharePoint is all about ease-of-use. Past criticism was that not all aspects of SharePoint, both on the front and backend, were intuitive. Some companies that introduced SharePoint as their end-to-end intranet would get cringes in response when encouraging its use. However, that was then, and this is now. The Modern SharePoint is truly user-friendly, making resistance to adoption a thing of the past and improving the efficiency of users. In addition, it sets up the role of the SharePoint administrator to be more than just IT focused, going beyond technical capabilities enabling admins to be a true end-to-end coach of the platform.
It’s hard to see why you shouldn't just hop onboard the Modern SharePoint Experience. However, moving away from the Classic to Modern does require a plan. Be sure to learn about the difference between the two approaches, consider your adoption materials and define your strategy before making the move.
